Senior MechanicalEngineer

The Senior Mechanical Engineer has responsibility formechanical and electromechanical design of all IMS products. This individualhas a significant impact on product innovation, cost, schedule, and featureset. This individual will retain technical ownership of product mechanicaldesign throughout the design, development, production, and support phases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with stakeholders and engineers of various disciplines to develop early conceptual designs for both ground-based and flight-qualified products with electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical content. Typical components to be designed into the products include standard and custom circuit boards, power supplies, cabling, computer peripherals, and fabricated metal and plastic parts, resulting in finished assemblies ranging in size from handheld to rackmount
  • Using knowledge of materials and fabrication processes, decompose the rough concepts into cost-effective, manufacturable designs
  • Select between purchased or fabricated components and develop assemblies based on cost/performance/availability tradeoffs
  • Generate 3D models and 2D documentation as required to build prototype and production mechanical piece parts
  • Help locate, review, select, and manage suppliers
  • Interface with testing agencies to secure regulatory approvals
  • Perform root-cause analysis on problems detected in returned products

 

MinimumSkills/Qualifications Required:

 

  • 4-year technical degree, or 2 year degree with additional experience
  • 10+ years experience in development of electronic products, at least five of which has been  using 3D CAD tools (preferably SolidWorks)
